having traveled all over CA since 1980, and moved to El Salvador in 1994, the food is not so good, had to teach my maid each week how to cook, but having been in El Salvador since 1995, i must say pupusas can save your life and cheap, seafood, got to catch your own or get fresh, we have all you want, and I am senorpescador.com and fairtradefish.org,. true they eat chicken porka and beef, just how it is, cafe, Guatemala and El Salvador are thee best to me and all out beers are good, gallo is horrible and none in CR are any good, too much chems and formaldehyde, 20+ years I have said El Salvador, war danger no surf ugly women, go to costa rica to all my friends here in Wrighrtsville Beach and all gringos for that matter but I did build a website in 1996. to try to get some interest, so now I tell my friends come on down,and it is THEE best country, and for medical and dental, I have had all done in maybe 7 countries, even Colombia, and MY fav, is Colombia just not much for surf……..cheers

Great list, Honduran coffee is the very best, I’m Honduran and have visited all Central American countries except Costa Rica, we have a different version of tapado, the one in the picture is called sopa marinera. Baleadas and Honduran fried shrimps are the very best. Nicaraguan fried cheese is really good ,too.

@Lorenzo: Thanks. It was all fun to find and eat. Looking forward to adding a Belize section, too. Funny, I had a chance to do a deep dive into Belize cuisine visa Belize food-focused press trip at the end of last year, but had to turn it down as we were in SE Asia. A lot of long flights and layovers to make it around the world that way. The world’s big, but we’re still hungry. We’ll round out our Central America food collection one of these days.
