Tim, we’re hoping that articles like this bring awareness on the dangers of smoke inhalation and what a big difference clean stoves can mean to a family. We hope this is only the beginning for this organization.

Thanks, Colleen. Love the coincidental timing with your trip to Tanzania. Glad you enjoyed the story and the storytelling. Your feedback means a lot!

I’m in Dar es Salaam this week working with women owned businesses. I loved this story and the transformational impact that clean stoves have had in these villages. You guys are gifted storytellers!

Thanks, Ivana. When women band together, great things. That always seems the case, regardless of where we travel and which type of social enterprise project we happen to visit or profile.

For the benefit of other readers, I should probably clarify that the community has accepted assistance. However, the assistance is paired with their involvement and their own investment of time and money.

Wow, there’s a lot to unpack here. The small and simple are often of great significance. Having said that, a basic level of security and health is always a good place to start. This project certainly applies. Beyond that, I will note that it’s remarkable that people who appear to have nothing are sometimes happier and more satisfied than people who appear to have everything.

Just goes to show how lucky we are in the West.

Am really happy to learn about such a generous and wonderful project! I can only imagine the strength of the women when they insisted they would carry the project themselves. It doesn’t happen too often that small communities reject a help from outside, since they are often told it’d bring them more chances to kick off a project.
Wishing them to keep managing their jobs and more travellers to support them!

Thanks, Franca! One of the best things about travel is that it provides perspective and gratitude on what we have in our own life. We had no idea the importance of stove design until this visit, but since then we have become big advocates. What I really like about this project is that the community is so heavily invested which ensures that the stove is the perfect design for their needs. And yes, things are changing and the more we can raise awareness to issues and projects like this they will hopefully change even more!

Thanks, Michelle! So glad you enjoyed this. We couldn’t agree with you more about the focus on people in a destination instead of just the destination alone. And this project was a great example of how a non-sexy simple and inexpensive thing ($50) can make such a difference to a family’s health and the environment as well.
